Success of Turkish Universities in THE Asia University Rankings

- In the 2026 Asia University Rankings, four Turkish universities ranked in the top 100, seven in the top 200, and 14 in the top 300

- 29 Turkish universities made it into the top 500. With 109 universities included overall, Türkiye ranked third in terms of representation

Times Higher Education (THE), the international higher education ranking organization, has released the 2026 Asia University Rankings.

The rankings evaluated 929 higher education institutions from 36 countries and regions across four main dimensions—“research quality,” “teaching environment,” “knowledge transfer,” and “international outlook”—using 18 different indicators. The strong performance of Turkish universities stood out in this assessment.

Four Turkish universities ranked in the top 100, seven in the top 200, and 14 in the top 300. Additionally, 29 universities secured places within the top 500. With 109 universities included in the rankings overall, Türkiye ranked third globally in terms of representation.

Koç University ranked 73rd, Middle East Technical University 78th, Sabancı University 82nd, and Istanbul Technical University 97th, all placing within the top 100. Meanwhile, Boğaziçi University ranked 102nd, Bilkent University 137th, and Yıldız Technical University 171st, achieving positions in the top 200.

Hacettepe University, Istanbul Medipol University, Kadir Has University, and Özyeğin University ranked within the 201–250 band. Abdullah Gül University, Atatürk University, and Bahçeşehir University were placed in the 251–300 band, securing positions in the top 300.

Other Turkish universities ranked in the top 500 are as follows:

  • 301–350 band: Izmir Institute of Technology, Selçuk University
  • 351–400 band: Akdeniz University, Çankaya University, Istanbul University, Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa
  • 401–500 band: Ankara University, Bartın University, Düzce University, Fırat University, Gazi University, Gebze Technical University, İstinye University, Necmettin Erbakan University, TOBB University of Economics and Technology

 

- Özvar Puts Emphasis on “Global Engagement and International Collaboration”

President of the Council of Higher Education Erol Özvar noted in his remarks that universities have recently gained upward momentum in international rankings.

Emphasizing that the increasing participation of academics in global research networks and the development of internationally collaborative projects will further enhance the impact of academic work, Özvar stated: “As the Council of Higher Education, we are working with determination in full alignment with our universities along this path.”
