CoHE Extends Special Student Status for Earthquake Victims for Another Year
August 27, 2025
The Council of Higher Education (CoHE) has extended the special student status granted to earthquake victims for another year.
Following the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, CoHE decided to grant special student status to students studying at universities in Adıyaman, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, and Malatya affected by the earthquake, upon request. The decision was valid for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years.
The CoHE Executive Board has decided to extend the special student status for one more year to prevent students affected by the earthquake from suffering hardship. CoHE President Özvar shared on social media, "Emre, an earthquake-affected student, requested the extension of the special student status we granted to students studying at universities in Adıyaman, Hatay, Kahramanmaraş, and Malatya, which were affected by the earthquakes. We discussed this issue at today's Executive Board meeting and reached a decision. We decided to extend the special student status for another year. I would like to share this good news with the earthquake-affected students who benefit from special student status. I would like to take this opportunity to send my regards to all our students and Emre, and wish them success."
