2025-YKS Champions Choose Engineering and Law Programs
August 27, 2025
Following the announcement of the 2025-YKS placement results, the universities and programs, where students who scored 500 points and ranked first in the exams were placed, have been determined. Out of the six YKS top scorers in different score types, five were admitted to engineering programs and one to a law faculty.
Ahmet Eren Özyurtseven, a graduate of Nizip Science High School (Gaziantep) who ranked first in the TYT and AYT quantitative score types, was admitted to Koç University's Computer Engineering department (on scholarship). Muhammed İsmail Kuşat, a graduate of Özel Tan Science High School (Bursa) who ranked first in the AYT verbal and equally-weighted score types, was admitted to Galatasaray University's Law Faculty.
The top scorer in the English section of the YDT exam, Mehmet Sarak, a graduate of İzmir Bahçeşehir College Ellinci Yıl Science ve Technology High School, will study Computer Engineering at İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University (on scholarship). The top scorer in the French section of the YDT exam, Arda Eren Kartal, a graduate of Galatasaray High School, will study Engineering and Natural Sciences at Sabancı University (on scholarship). YDT Arabic first place winner Abdulvahap Burro, a graduate of TOFAŞ Science High School (Bursa), enrolled in the Computer Engineering program at Istanbul Technical University, while YDT Russian first place winner Ediz Doğan Karakoç, a graduate of Haydarpaşa High School (Istanbul), enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering program at Boğaziçi University.
Champions are leaning towards engineering and law
It is noteworthy that, especially in recent years, unlike previous years, the top scorers are leaning towards engineering and law programs rather than medical schools. While the top five scorers in 2025 won places in engineering and one in law, last year four of the top scorers won places in engineering, two in economics, and the others in business administration, economics, and medicine.
In 2023, three of the highest scorers chose medicine, two opted for engineering, while the remainder were admitted to programs in law, economics, psychology, and theology. A similar trend was seen in 2022, when two top scorers enrolled in engineering, two in medicine, and two in law, with the rest continuing their studies in economics, psychology, and theology. In 2021, two of the leading students pursued medicine, another two engineering, and the others entered programs such as law, political science and international relations, business administration, and psychology.
CoHE President Erol Özvar stated that the registration process will take place from September 1 to 5 following the preference period, adding, “I invite all our candidates who have successfully secured a place in a program to register and take advantage of the opportunities offered by university life.”
Özvar stated that university life offers young people an experience that opens up unique horizons in cultural, artistic, sporting, and social terms, along with an exceptionally valuable diploma, adding, “This opportunity, achieved at the end of such a competitive process, must be seized.”
He also urged applicants who were not accepted into any program to closely follow the additional placement process, noting that these applicants would have the chance to make new selections for the few remaining quotas.
