- CoHE President Özvar urges students placed in university programs: “You may not have the same opportunity next year at the university and program where you have been placed this year. Don’t hesitate to enroll”

Following the announcement of the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Examination (2026-YKS) placement results, Council of Higher Education President Erol Özvar offered important advice to students placed in university programs and their families regarding the registration process.

Özvar noted that quotas for higher education programs are being revised based on student demand, graduates’ employment prospects, academic capacity, and the country’s needs. He pointed out that these changes can also affect the ranking and scores required for admission to programs.

Addressing students as university registration began today, Özvar said:

“Rankings and scores change every year. You may not have the same opportunity next year at the university and program where you have been placed this year. Therefore, do not hesitate to enroll at the university where you have been placed this year. You should not let opportunities pass you by. Please keep in mind that rankings and scores may change from year to year.”

- Registration to end on August 28

Registration for candidates who qualified for placement in a higher education program based on the 2026-YKS results began today. University registration will end on Friday, August 28.

Candidates who qualified for a place in a program can complete their electronic registration by Wednesday, August 26. Candidates can register electronically through the e-Government Gateway and complete any remaining registration procedures in line with the documents and deadlines announced by the universities.

- Quotas being reshaped according to needs and demand

In recent years, CoHE has been revising the quotas of higher education programs based not only on student demand, but also on graduates’ employment prospects, academic capacity, and the needs of the labor market.

In programs where demand is high and quotas are limited, increased competition can lead to changes in minimum admission scores and rankings.

Therefore, a candidate placed in a program this year with a particular ranking is not guaranteed to be admitted to the same program next year with the same ranking.

- Strong demand for universities

The 2026-YKS placement results also showed that demand for higher education remains strong.

The overall occupancy rate at public universities reached 99.52%, while the occupancy rate stood at 99.15% for undergraduate programs and 99.98% for associate degree programs.

Only 37 places remained vacant in associate degree programs. While the high occupancy rates and changing demand for programs show that admission rankings can shift from year to year, CoHE President Özvar also urged students to assess the university and program in which they have been placed this year while taking into account potential changes in rankings and scores in the years ahead.
