Historic Cooperation in Higher Education Between Türkiye and Poland

During the visit to Poland by the delegation led by President of the Council of Higher Education Özvar, 15 Turkish universities signed more than 70 cooperation agreements with Polish universities

- Agreements strengthening the strategic partnership were signed both between Türkiye and Poland and between the universities of the two countries

Historic steps aimed at strengthening academic cooperation between the two countries were taken during the visit to Poland held on 7–9 May under the leadership of President of the Council of Higher Education Erol Özvar, with the participation of 19 universities.

In addition to the “Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Higher Education” signed between the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye and the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, 15 Turkish universities signed more than 70 memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements with various Polish universities.

Within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Council of Higher Education and the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, joint projects will be developed in strategic fields such as artificial intelligence, digital technologies, energy transition, health sciences, biotechnology, sustainable agriculture, and innovative industrial technologies. In addition, joint degree programs will be launched, scientific consortia will be established, and researcher mobility will be increased.

 

15 universities, 72 agreements

In the agreements signed between Turkish and Polish higher education institutions, priority was given to the academic fields in which the universities specialize. While engineering- and technology-focused collaborations stood out among technical universities, agreements were also signed between universities specializing in health, veterinary medicine, agriculture, and life sciences to enhance opportunities for joint research and academic mobility.

Atatürk University signed cooperation protocols with seven Polish universities: the University of Agriculture in Kraków, the University of Gdańsk, Silesian University of Technology, the Medical University of Łódź, the University of Białystok, the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, and Poznań University of Life Sciences.

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University signed agreements with ten Polish universities and reached understandings with two additional universities. Agreements were signed with Silesian University of Technology, Białystok University of Technology, Kazimierz Wielki University, Poznań University of Technology, the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, the University of Gdańsk, Ignatianum University, WSB University, Poznań University of Life Sciences, and Gdańsk Medical University. Agreements were also reached with the University of Agriculture in Kraków and Warsaw University of Life Sciences, and official signatures are expected soon.

Bursa Technical University signed cooperation agreements with four universities: the University of Białystok, Warsaw University of Technology, Silesian University of Technology, and Gdańsk University of Technology.

Eskişehir Technical University signed six memoranda of understanding with Lublin University of Technology, Kazimierz Wielki University, Poznań University of Life Sciences, Gdańsk University of Technology, the University of Gdańsk, and the University of Białystok.

Dokuz Eylül University signed agreements with Gdynia Maritime University, the University of Gdańsk, and the University of Białystok.

Hacettepe University reached agreements to sign cooperation protocols in the field of higher education, joint research activities, student and academic mobility, and institutional relations with Gdańsk Medical University, Jagiellonian University, the University of Warsaw, Kraków Ignatianum University, the University of Wrocław, the University of Łódź, the University of Białystok, and WSB University.

Gebze Technical University signed an agreement with the University of Białystok.

Istanbul University signed cooperation agreements with the Medical University of Łódź and Poznań University of Technology. It also reached an agreement in principle to sign a cooperation agreement with the University of Warsaw.

Istanbul Technical University (ITU) signed cooperation agreements with eight Polish universities during the visit. The university had previously signed agreements with three universities, bringing the total number of Polish partner universities to eleven. ITU signed memoranda of understanding with the University of Warsaw, Silesian University of Technology, the University of Wrocław, Gdańsk University of Technology, Gdynia Maritime University, the Medical University of Łódź, Warsaw University of Technology, and Lublin University of Technology. Previously, it had also signed agreements with AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, the University of Gdańsk, and Kraków University of Technology.

Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Gdańsk and continues negotiations with eight other universities.

Izmir Institute of Technology signed cooperation agreements with five universities: Kraków Ignatianum University, Poznań University of Life Sciences, Poznań University of Technology, Białystok University of Technology, and Silesian University of Technology.

Karadeniz Technical University signed cooperation agreements with four universities: Lublin University of Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology, Gdynia Maritime University, and Białystok University of Technology.

Konya Technical University signed agreements with Gdańsk University of Technology and Białystok University of Technology.

Sivas University of Science and Technology signed cooperation agreements with six universities: AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Kraków University of Technology, the University of Agriculture in Kraków, Białystok University of Technology, Koszalin University of Technology, and Gdańsk University of Technology.

Trakya University established cooperation with the University of Gdańsk and the University of Białystok.

Through the agreements signed between Turkish and Polish universities to enhance internationalization capacity and strengthen science diplomacy, joint research projects, student and academic mobility, and interdisciplinary scientific studies will be further developed.
