Under the auspices of the Council of Higher Education, and through the joint initiative of four universities located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region, an Energy Academy is being established with the aim of raising public awareness in the field of energy and achieving energy savings through conscious energy consumption.

An “Energy Academy Cooperation Protocol” was signed between Batman University—an expertise university in the field of energy, serving as the coordinator—Siirt University, Şırnak University, Mardin Artuklu University, and the Dicle Development Agency.

At the Energy Academy, open and free-of-charge courses will be offered to the public by distinguished academics, sector representatives, administrators, and experts actively working in the field, covering topics such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy policies, and the use of energy in agriculture and industry.

In addition to undergraduate and graduate students, the academy will address a broad audience including sector professionals and individuals interested in the field of energy. Through its online education model, it will be accessible to participants from all over Türkiye. Participants who successfully complete the four-month program and earn a certificate will gain an advantage in employment processes.

Rector of Batman University Demir: “The key to development is energy literacy”

Rector of Batman University, Prof. İdris Demir, stated that the Energy Academy is not merely an educational program, saying: “We aim to increase energy literacy. Following data literacy, we have now launched the energy literacy initiative in line with the vision set forth by the President of the Council of Higher Education, Erol Özvar.”

Emphasizing that the widespread dissemination of energy knowledge will have a broad impact ranging from daily life to the economy, Demir said: “Conscious energy use will lead to savings in many areas, from households to agricultural irrigation, and from industry to the public sector. A reduction in energy consumption will lower our energy bill and thus contribute to our country’s economic development.”
