The Council of Higher Education (CoHE) organized the "Professions of the Future Gathering", bringing together representatives of science communication offices and corporate communications units from universities across Türkiye.

Held at the Council of Higher Education, the event focused on how professions of the future and employment-oriented careers should be introduced during the university selection period, as well as the most effective communication channels for informing prospective students and their families about the new academic programs offered by universities in these fields.

Speaking at the event, Deputy President of the Council of Higher Education Professor Naci Gündoğan emphasized that career promotion has evolved beyond the traditional university selection outreach. "Promoting professions is no longer simply about introducing academic programs. It is about making the connection between professions, skills, and employment visible, supporting young people's decision-making through data-driven approaches, and strengthening the strategic positioning of our universities," he said.

Gündoğan noted that Science Communication Offices have become one of the higher education system's most important channels for engaging with society. "The next stage of science communication is not only to share scientific knowledge but also to introduce young people to the professions, career paths, and future skills that emerge from that knowledge," he said.

He added that promotional activities focusing on the professions of the future would further enrich the communication networks established by Science Communication Offices and help young people make informed career choices.

"Our goal is not merely to promote academic programs. We aim to make visible how the knowledge produced at our universities translates into professions, skills, and contributions to society," Gündoğan stated.

He also outlined the Council's expectations from universities, encouraging them to organize profession-oriented promotional activities in their areas of strength while bringing together academics, industry representatives, students, and alumni on common platforms.

According to Gündoğan, this approach will enable prospective students to understand not only the name of a degree program but also the skills it develops, the career opportunities it offers, and its contribution to society.

"Our objective is not limited to conducting conventional promotional activities for university preference periods. We also seek to make career opportunities that align with young people's interests, talents, and aspirations more visible, introduce the new skill sets required by a rapidly changing world, and reach a broader audience with the strong academic and professional opportunities offered by our higher education system," he said.

- Savaşçıoğlu: "An Effort to Guide Human Resources in the Right Direction"

Fatma Çiğdem Savaşçıoğlu, Press and Public Relations Advisor to the Council of Higher Education, described the initiative as "an effort to guide the human resources that Türkiye will need in the future in the right direction."

Emphasizing that universities are not merely institutions that award degrees but also institutions that shape society's future, Savaşçıoğlu stated that effectively promoting the professions of the future means strengthening both the future of young people and the country.

She explained that the campaign would utilize four major communication channels simultaneously: traditional media, social media, science cafés, and university selection period events.

Noting that the university selection period is much more than a promotional campaign, Savaşçıoğlu said: "This is an effort to guide the human resources that will contribute to our country's development in the right direction."

The program also featured sample career promotion videos. This was followed by a Science Café simulation under the theme "Professions of the Future: University, Student and Industry Perspectives."

The session was moderated by television presenter and Science Communication Coordinator at Çankaya University İsmail Yolcu. Panelists included Prof. Şahin Emrah of Ankara University, Ardacan Bodur, a student at Ankara University's Vocational School of Cyber Security, and Ömer Özkan, Deputy General Manager for Information and Communication Technologies at HAVELSAN.

The event concluded with a question-and-answer session followed by the screening of the "Professions of the Future Campaign Video."
