Prof. Dr. Rahmi ER

​He was born in Çatalzeytin, Kastamonu on October 10, 1959. He completed his B.A. degree in Arabic Department, Faculty of Letters at Ankara University in 1981. He became a research assistant in the same Department in 1982. 

After receiving his M.A. in 1984 and his doctorate in 1988, he was promoted to associate professorship 1991 and full professorship in 1997. 

While he was preparing his PhD thesis he was assigned by his University to King Saud University (Riyadh) where he has got some courses in Institute of Arabic Language and conducted researches on his PhD dissertation between 1986 and 1988. 

In October of 1999, Prof. Er was assigned by the Turkish Government to Cairo (Egypt) in order to give Turkish Language courses for a year in both Cairo and Ain Shams universities.  

Prof. Er served as the Head of Arabic Department of Faculty of Letters, Ankara University between 2000 and 2003, and as the Vice Dean between 2002 and 2007; and as the Dean between 2010 and 2013 at the same Faculty. 

Starting from March 25, 2015, he worked as the Advisor to the President of the Turkish Council of Higher Education (CoHE). 

Prof. Er was appointed by the President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as a CoHE member in August 2015. He is currently serving as an Executive Board Member of CoHE since July 20, 2016. 

In addition to his published many scientific papers, articles and books, Prof. Er has also translated numerous texts from Arabic into Turkish. Of the texts he has translated, four are full length novels. 

He knows Arabic and English. He is married and has three children.
