First “CoHE 100/2000 Doctoral Scholarship Student Meeting“ Takes Place at CoHE

The “New CoHE" created the “CoHE 100/2000 Doctoral Scholarship Project", a first in the history of Turkish higher education, in accordance with Turkey's goal to become one of the 10 biggest economies in the world by 2023. The first meeting with the scholarship holders receiving doctoral education under the project was held at CoHE.

In addition to CoHE President Prof. Dr. M. A. Yekta Saraç, CoHE members and nearly 400 students from Ankara University, Ankara Hacı Bayram University, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Gazi University, Hacettepe University, and Middle East Technical University attended the meeting.

The meeting was held under the program, which was created to support knowledge production and qualified human resources and to answer the needs for people with doctorate degrees. CoHE President Prof. Dr. M. A. Yekta Saraç delivered the opening speech.

He emphasized that 97 thousand students, of which 42 thousand 265 are female students, are receiving doctoral education and said that they named the project as the “Turkey Project" due to its aim of training generations that will shape the academic environment of the future.

He reiterated that they were aiming for a country that could increase its net development value with its brainpower according to the vision created by the Turkish Government for 2023. He said that their main aim was to train powerful generations for the future. He concluded his speech by saying that he had dreams and hopes about the students for the future of Turkey.

Prof. Dr. Diclehan Orhan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eren Kalay made a speech on behalf of Hacettepe University and Middle East Technical University, respectively. After the speeches, CoHE 100/2000 scholarship holders from Hacettepe University, Gazi University, Ankara University, and Middle East Technical University made short speeches on their thoughts about the project.

In the afternoon session, Ayşegül Kutay Gündoğan, Head at the Department of Project Development and Support in Higher Education, made a presentation on the project and they had a question and answer session.

The scholarship holders had the opportunity to ask their questions and express their opinions and suggestions.
