Chips Produced with University-Industry Collaboration Sold Worldwide

Bringing together the science produced in universities with the industrial
sector contributes greatly to the economic and technological development of
our country. One of the best examples of university-industry cooperation is
carried out under the leadership of Necmettin Erbakan University in Konya.
The Science and Technology Research and Application Center (BITAM) at the
university produces chips used in the calibration measurement of
electronic, optical and electro-optical devices in cooperation with the
industry.
Erol Özvar, President of the Council of Higher Education, stated that they
see universities not only as institutions that conduct academic research
but also as structures that directly contribute to the economic development
of the country and said, “Increasing the cooperation between the business
world and universities and strengthening the employability of our students
is one of our top priorities.”
Necmettin Erbakan University Faculty Member Prof. Oğuz Doğan, one of the
researchers of the chip production project, stated that they compete with
the world in the field of science and technology by producing products that
are light in weight but heavy in cost.
Doğan said, “The chip we produce is 5x5 mm in size, one tenth of the
thickness of a hair and weighs 0.25 grams. We sell 0.25 grams for 100-150
dollars. The market price of this is around 200 dollars. Companies from the
USA, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan and many other countries operating in
the semiconductor industry order the chip we have produced. We sell chips
to Silicon Valley, the center of the semiconductor industry.”
