Turkish Universities Continue Their Remarkable Rise in World Rankings
According to the QS 2025 World University Rankings, Turkish universities
have achieved great success. The number of universities in the top 500
increased from three to five, and the number of universities in the top
1000 increased from 10 to 11
METU ranked 285th, ITU 326th, Koç University 401st, Boğaziçi University
418th, Bilkent University 477th
Türkiye ranked among the top 5 countries in the world according to the
overall improvement of its universities
According to QS's Türkiye report, Türkiye's academic reputation and
employer reputation scores increased. The global recognition of Turkish
higher education and scientific research of Turkish universities increased

the rankings. None of the Turkish universities in the ranking fell below
their position last year, 15 universities improved their position and 10
universities maintained their position

The QS 2025 World University Rankings, in which 5,663 leading universities
around the world were evaluated and 1,503 universities were ranked,
featured 25 universities from Türkiye.
In this year's ranking, the number of Turkish universities in the top 500
increased from three to five. METU ranked 285th, ITU 326th, Koç University
401st, Boğaziçi University 418th and Bilkent University 477th.
The number of universities in the top 1000 increased from 10 to 11. Sabancı
University ranked 516th and approached the top 500, while Istanbul
University ranked 621-630th, Hacettepe University 641-650th, Ankara
University 801-850th, Yıldız Technical University 851-900th and Gazi
University 901-950th.
Ege University, Gebze Technical University and Marmara University ranked in
the 1001-1200 band; Anadolu University, Atatürk University, Çukurova
University, Dokuz Eylül University, Erciyes University, Istanbul Aydın
University, Istanbul Bilgi University, Izmir Institute of Technology and
Süleyman Demirel University ranked in the 1201-1400 band; Akdeniz
University and Sakarya University ranked in the 1400+ band.

All Turkish universities ranked in the top 1,000 last year climbed higher
in the rankings. While none of the Turkish universities ranked last year
dropped below their current ranks, 15 universities improved their positions
and 10 universities maintained their positions.
CoHE President Erol Özvar stated that the most important mission of the
Council of Higher Education is to take all kinds of measures to increase
the national and international competitiveness, international visibility
and prestige of Turkish universities and said, “As the Council of Higher
Education and universities, we are pleased to observe that our
quality-oriented approach and studies have started to bear fruit recently.”
Özvar said, “There is no such thing as coincidence for success. These
results are the products of a planned strategy that we have been
implementing together with our universities for the last three years. In the
12th Development Plan, which is among the high-level policy documents of
our State, we are taking firm steps towards the 'target of 10 universities
entering the top 500 in the 2024-2028 Plan". The increasing performance of
our universities shows that we will hopefully achieve this goal.”
Looking at the QS evaluation results, Özvar stated that it is pleasing to
see that none of the Turkish universities in the ranking lost their
positions in the ranking compared to the previous year, and 15 universities
improved their positions, and said, “This result shows us that the rise in
the rankings is not limited to a few of our universities, but that our
entire higher education system is in an upward trend.”
