Turkish universities and rectors reacted to the violence against university
students peacefully protesting the atrocities against innocent people in
Gaza in the US.
Universities and rectors wrote the following statements both in Turkish and
English on their social media accounts:
"For over six months, violence aimed at annihilating innocent people living
in Gaza has been protested peacefully by university students.
Protesters from Columbia University to Yale, from New York University to
Harvard, are calling on their universities to support ceasefires and cut
ties with companies linked to Israel. Students are being detained during
the protests, and universities are transitioning to remote education to
stop the protests.
We consider the disproportionate response to the peaceful reaction of
university students as a blow to fundamental human rights and academic
freedom. We are deeply saddened by the counterattack and strongly condemn
it.
