CoHE President Erol Özvar chaired the senate meeting of Trakya University
and held official talks in Edirne on the occasion of the 22nd Supreme Board
Meeting of the Thrace Universities Union (TUB).
In his speech at the senate meeting, Özvar stated that, among other
missions, Trakya University had a tremendous potential especially in terms
of internationalization.
He stated that CoHE had a mission to support universities that are active
in the international arena, and emphasized that Trakya University had been
providing important services in the Balkans, from Romania to Albania, in
the fields of health, informatics and engineering, as well as in the
education of the students of the countries in the region.
He pointed out that in parallel with Türkiye's efforts in recent years,
especially the new technology move, Turkish universities were closely
followed in the world and said: "The fact that Turkish universities are
becoming more and more visible is a tremendous support for the development
of our country. Turkish universities and professors help solve some issues
that diplomacy and politics cannot solve with science."
He emphasized that it was extremely important to take care of international
students and to treat them as prospective companions and ambassadors of
Türkiye.
"The seed of xenophobia cannot sprout in these lands. This region is alien
to such seeds. It does not allow them to develop and grow.
Our recent graduates have an important role in the increase of the foreign
trade and diplomatic relations of our country in Africa and many other
countries.They have started to take part in trade, arts,
literature, politics and diplomacy in many countries. We should consider
this as a national duty."
"I envision Trakya University to become the health center of the
Balkans"
CoHE President Erol Özvar opened the "Prof. Ahmet Karadeniz Operating
Theater" at the Medical Faculty Hospital at Trakya University.
Trakya University Hospital serves nearly 2 million patients a year. 18
thousand surgeries are performed on average and 400 international patients
are operated on. He visited the center where a new surgical procedure
against epilepsy was developed and received information from the doctors of
the department.
He stated that he believed Trakya University would become stronger in the
region and said, "I envision Trakya University to become the health center
of the Balkans. I want you to know that we will provide all kinds of
support on our part."

Özvar stated that CoHE provided all kinds of support for universities to
produce competitiveness at both regional, national and international
levels, taking into account the human potential, quality and strength of
academic staff.
He pointed out the importance of supporting competent professors.
"The creation of a favorable environment and climate depends on the
encouragement of colleagues. If there is a Newton among us, he will only
rise on our shoulders. In this respect, universities need to build and
support this scientific productivity."
-Meeting with Students-
He visited Arasta Bazaar with Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer and chatted with
shopkeepers. Then they met with student communities and international
students at the Balkan Congress Center. He opened the print painting
exhibition titled "Academician Artists". He visited the booths of all
student organizations and chatted with the students.
