​ Turkish Universities Rise in World Rankings, Scientific Production Increases

According to the QS 2024 World University Rankings, Turkish universities have achieved great success. The number of universities in the top 500 increased from 1 to 3, and the number of universities in the top 1000 increased from 8 to 10. METU, ITU and Koç University ranked 336th, 404th and 431st, respectively.

The number of international publications from Türkiye also increased. According to Scopus data, Türkiye, which ranked 22nd in the production of scientific documents in the world in 2002, rose to 17th place in 2022.

Compared to last year, the number of Turkish universities in the top 500 and top 1000 has increased, while the ranking in scientific production has risen from 22nd to 17th in the last two decades.

25 Turkish universities made it into the QS 2024 World University Rankings, in which 2,963 of the world's leading universities were evaluated and 1503 universities were ranked.

In this year's ranking, the number of Turkish universities in the top 500 increased from 1 to 3. METU ranked 336th and succeeded in entering the top 400, while ITU ranked 404th and Koç University ranked 431st.

-Universities nearing the top 500-

Bilkent University ranked 502nd, Boğaziçi University ranked 514th and Sabancı University ranked 526th, nearing the top 500.

Istanbul University, Hacettepe University, Ankara University, Yıldız Technical University and Kyrgyzstan-Türkiye Manas University ranked among the top 1000 universities in the world rankings.

Last year, only Koç University (477) was among the top 500 in the QS World University Rankings and 8 Turkish universities were among the top 1000 universities.

-Türkiye increased its scientific production-

As Turkish universities rise in the world rankings, the number of indexed publications has also increased significantly in recent years. According to Scopus data, while the number of international publications with Turkish addresses was 12,743 and its share in the world was 1.23 percent in 2002, the number of publications increased to 72,000 and its share in the world increased to 1.84 percent in 2022.

While Türkiye ranked 22nd in the production of scientific documents in the world in 2002, it rose to 17th in 2022.

According to Incites data, while Türkiye's number of international publications was 10 thousand 828 in 2002, this figure increased to 66 thousand 516 in 2022.
