Turkish Universities Ranked Among Best in Europe

METU, ITU, Koç University, Bilkent University and Boğaziçi University were ranked in the top 200 in the "QS World University Rankings: Europe 2024", in which the universities of the member states of the Council of Europe were evaluated for the first time this year by the UK-based higher education rating agency QS.

METU, ITU, Koç University, Bilkent University and Boğaziçi University have made it to the top 200 in the "QS World University Rankings: Europe 2024" launched this year by the UK-based higher education rating agency Quacquarelli Symond (QS), which ranks the best universities in Europe. CoHE President Erol Özvar said, "Turkish universities made us proud in the evaluation made according to the indicators such as academic reputation, student faculty ratio, number of papers, and number of international students."

QS published the "QS World University Rankings: Europe 2024", which evaluated 688 universities in 42 member states of the Council of Europe.

In the Europe-wide ranking, METU ranked 124th, ITU 138th, Koç University 174th, Bilkent University 178th, and Boğaziçi University 199th. Sabancı University (201), Hacettepe University (224), Istanbul University (228), Gazi University (283), Ankara University (289), Yıldız Technical University (326), Ege University (381), Istanbul Gelisim University (432), Abdullah Gül University (445), Galatasaray University (445), Marmara University (451), Çankaya University (455), Istanbul Bilgi University (488), and Dokuz Eylül University (488) were also ranked in the top 500.

72 Turkish universities were ranked in QS's evaluation that was based on the indicators such as academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, papery per faculty, international research network, employment outcomes, faculty student ratio, international student diversity, international faculty ratio, inbound exchange students, outbound exchange students and sustainability and carried out in fields such as global recognition, research ability, teaching resources, internationalization and employment.

With this number, Türkiye became the second country represented with the highest number of universities after the United Kingdom.

Turkish Universities Most Recognized by Employers

Three universities from Türkiye were ranked among the top 50 universities in Europe in the "Employer Reputation" indicator, which reflects QS's assessment of recognition among international employers. METU ranked 34th in this list, making it the most recognized Turkish university by employers.

METU was followed by Istanbul Technical University in 37th place and Boğaziçi University in 42nd place.

METU also ranked 109th in the "Academic Reputation" indicator.

The Best Turkish Universities in Europe in Student Exchange Programs

Turkish universities also ranked high in the categories of "Europe's Best Student Exchange Programs".

Galatasaray University ranked 12th, Bilkent University 31st and METU 32nd in Europe in the "Outbound Student Exchange" indicator. Fırat University ranked 35th in the "Inbound Student Exchange" indicator.

Employment and Sustainability Indicators

In QS's "Employment Outcomes" indicator, Boğaziçi University ranked 33rd, making it the best Turkish University in this field, while Istanbul University ranked 62nd in the same field.

In the field of "Sustainability", METU ranked 47th.

Özvar pointed out that a large number of universities from Türkiye took place in the ranking of QS, one of the university evaluation organizations, which has become a great reputation and promotion tool, and noted the following:

"In the list where universities in European countries are evaluated, Türkiye was the most represented country with 72 universities after the United Kingdom. Our universities made us proud in the evaluation made according to the indicators such as academic reputation, student faculty ratio, number of papers, and the number of international students.

I would like to congratulate METU, ITU, Koç University, Bilkent University, Boğaziçi University, Koç University, Bilkent University and Boğaziçi University, and all other universities that made it into the top 200. I hope that the number of universities that have achieved high success not only in QS's regional rankings but also in the world rankings will increase in the future and that our successful universities will raise the bar even higher."
