​ Evaluation Meeting on TUBITAK’s Support Programs for Research Universities Held at TUBITAK MAM

CoHE President Özvar: "We continue our efforts to ensure wider participation of Turkish universities in TUBITAK's investment and incentive programs."

The Evaluation Meeting for TUBITAK’s Support Programs for Research Universities was held at Marmara Research Center (MAM) of TUBITAK.

Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Minister of Industry and Technology, Prof. Erol Özvar, President of the Council of Higher Education, Prof. Hasan Mandal, President of TUBITAK, Prof. Naci Gündoğan, CoHE Executive Board Member, rectors and vice-rectors of research universities attended the meeting.

In his speech at the meeting, CoHE President Özvar pointed out the importance of the programs prepared for universities by TUBITAK, which is the main supporter of science and technology in Türkiye.

He emphasized that universities had been carrying out important projects within the scope of university-industry cooperation and said, "R&D in the private sector is vital. I think that Turkish universities and the industrial sector can benefit a lot from each other. We continue our efforts to ensure wider participation of our universities in TUBITAK's investment and incentive programs."

TUBITAK-1004 Center of Excellence Support Program

Özvar also made a speech at the meeting where TUBITAK 1004-Center of Excellence Support Program was evaluated.

He stated that one of the biggest goals of the Council of Higher Education in the coming period would be to make all kinds of arrangements that would pave the way for universities to differentiate themselves.

He stated that the Center of Excellence Support Program was of great importance in terms of developing national technologies and increasing Türkiye's competitiveness in international platforms. Özvar said, "We consider this program as an exceptional opportunity for our universities."

"Especially within the scope of the program where research universities can evaluate their knowledge, skills and competencies together with all their stakeholders, the progress made by our centers of excellence over a relatively short period of time is truly exciting. The sustainability of these centers will be among the most important goals of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, TUBITAK and CoHE. I think that it should not be limited to our universities, but carried out together with the business world, industry and our stakeholders."

Özvar added that they continued their efforts to make the necessary legal arrangements for the centers of excellence to work more effectively.
