CoHE Reveals Details of New Implementation Project Offering Double
Major and Minor Opportunities to Basic Science Students
According to YKS placement results, students enrolled in the physics,
chemistry, biology and mathematics programs at Istanbul University,
Ankara University, Dokuz Eylül University, Karadeniz Technical
University and Çukurova University this year will be able to double
major and minor in computer science, economics, business administration,
statistics and econometrics programs.
CoHE President Erol Özvar: "We give students, who choose basic science
programs, the opportunity to double major and minor in basic sciences
in order to ensure that students in higher percentile choose basic
sciences and to increase the employment opportunities of graduates. The
new arrangement aims to increase the quality of basic sciences."

The Council of Higher Education has decided that the students, who enrolled
in the physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics programs at Istanbul
University, Ankara University, Dokuz Eylül University, Karadeniz Technical
University and Çukurova University according to the results of the Higher
Education Institutions Examination (2023-YKS) as of the 2023-2024 academic
year, will be able to double major and minor in computer science,
economics, business administration, statistics and econometrics programs.
The procedures and principles regarding the new implementation project
about double major and minor programs that the Council of Higher Education
will launch as of the 2023-2024 academic year were put into practice with
the amendment published in the Official Gazette dated July 16, 2023.
Following the enforcement of the Amendment of the Regulation for Student
Transfer Between Associate Degree and Bachelor’s Degree Programs, Double
Major and Minor Programs and Course Credit Transfers Between Higher
Education Institutions, it is aimed to expand the post-graduation work
opportunities of the students who will choose basic science programs by
allowing them to graduate from two programs at the same time.
Basic science students enrolled in the programs determined by the Council
of Higher Education will be able to double major and minor in programs
determined by the Council.
Accordingly, students who will choose physics, chemistry, biology and
mathematics programs at Istanbul University, Ankara University, Dokuz Eylül
University, Karadeniz Technical University and Çukurova University will be
able to double major and minor in computer science, economics, business
administration, statistics and econometrics programs according to the
quotas determined by the universities.
The relevant information and requirements will be included in the 2023-YKS
Selection Guide. The project will start to be implemented as of the
2023-2024 academic year.
Students who are admitted to the physics, chemistry, biology and
mathematics programs will apply to their universities for enrollment in
minor and double major programs.
CoHE President Erol Özvar emphasized that they prioritized quality in their
actions in all spheres of higher education.

to double major and minor in basic sciences in order to ensure that
