Meeting of Advisory Board for Higher Education Programs Takes Place at CoHE

The Advisory Board for Higher Education Programs , which was established to conduct the needs analysis for the planning of quotas in higher education programs in our country, had its eighth meeting at CoHE.

CoHE President Prof. M. A. Yekta Saraç chaired the meeting. The senior officials from the Council of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Industry and Technology, Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Strategy and Budget Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, Social Security Institution, and Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey attended the meeting.

Firstly, the status of the occupancy rates for 2020 quotas was evaluated at the meeting.

The following decisions were taken after the participants discussed the agenda items:

  • The practices of last year regarding teaching programs will continue to be carried out and the number of quotas will not be increased.
  • The quotas will be determined for law schools according to universities by taking into consideration the unused quotas of the relevant universities.
  • The total number of quotas will be decreased for engineering fields by considering the prominent areas and country needs in determining the quotas.
  • The total number of quotas for the fields of health, including the newly-established faculties and programs, will continue to be determined and the number of quotas will be gradually reduced for some fields.
  • Standards for starting and continuing education in associate degree programs such as First and Emergency Aid will be developed by taking the opinions of stakeholders.
  • The number of quotas for the evening education of associate degree programs in health will be gradually reduced by limiting their quotas, especially in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir, and evening education for associate degree programs in health will not be opened in foundation higher education institutions.
  • The decision to not open new health programs in TRNC due to limited fields of application will continue to be implemented.
