CBRN Workshop Held at CoHE

The Council of Higher Education held the second CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) Workshop through video conference due to the pandemic. The first workshop was organized in 2017.

CoHE President Prof. M. A. Yekta Saraç chaired the workshop. The officials of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Industry and Technology, Department of Defense Industry of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey, ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, AFAD, Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mining Research Authority (TENMAK), TUBITAK and the relevant representatives of the higher education institutions offering graduate programs in CBRN attended the event.

CoHE President Saraç made an opening speech at the meeting. He talked about the works of the New CoHE and the innovations in higher education regarding the pandemic.

Saraç reiterated that CoHE put all health fields and the issue of CBRN exposure and defense on the agenda to train people in the needed fields at the CBRN workshop held at CoHE in 2017. He underlined that eight universities, namely National Defence University, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Gebze Technical University, Hacettepe University, Iskenderun Technical University, University of Health Sciences, Selçuk University, and Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University, offered master’s degree programs in CBRN and two universities, namely University of Health Sciences and Selçuk University, offered doctoral programs.

CoHE President Saraç emphasized that medical CBRN was included in the field for associate professors and that the studies on CBRN were included in priority fields within the scope of the YOK 100/2000 PhD Scholarship Project. He also noted that a working group for CBRN, which was established within CoHE, had been carrying out its works.

He said that they would continue to work on developing the institutional structuring that was determined about CBRN at universities and concluded his speech by thanking the participants for their support and contributions.

Following the speech of President Saraç, CoHE member Prof. Mehmet Çelik made a presentation. Then, CoHE Executive Board member Prof. Zeliha Koçak briefed on CBRN Programs in Higher Education.

After the speeches, the workshop continued with two sessions: “Graduate Programs Opened at Universities, Their Current Status and Proposals” and “University-Industry Cooperation and Needs Analysis for Fields”.

At the workshop, the current status of the graduate programs offered in CBRN in higher education institutions and proposals were addressed and the CBRN activities, the expectations of higher education institutions and their proposals regarding university-industry cooperation were also discussed.
