Meeting of Coordination Board for Vocational Schools Takes Place at
CoHE

CoHE President Prof. M. A. Yekta Saraç chaired the second meeting of the
Coordination Board for Vocational Schools, which was established within the
scope of the policy “From Higher Education to Industry: Policy for
Qualified Workforce.”
The Board was established by law to set the standards for the establishment
of vocational schools and programs, to develop and monitor existing
programs and to provide opinions and suggestions on the employment of
graduates and the processes for Bachelor’s degree completion. In addition
to the board members, members representing the Ministry of Industry and
Technology, Ministry of National Education, Vocational Qualifications
Institution, Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, and UAK
attended the meeting.

an internship in vocational schools located at organized industrial
zones was discussed
The enhancement of the quality of hands-on training to improve the
professional skills of students receiving education in vocational schools
within the policy of “From Higher Education to Industry: Policy for
Qualified Workforce” and the situation of students with disabilities and
female students doing internship in vocational schools located at organized
industrial zones were discussed at the meeting.
- The enrolment rate has risen to 91% as a result of CoHE’s rational
quota policy
As a result of the improvements done by CoHE in the structure of vocational
schools, the enrolment rate, which was 63% in 2017, has increased to 91%.
The number of students receiving education in 921 vocational schools is
around 960 thousand. When the students of open and distance education are
included, this figure reaches 2 million 830 thousand.
- CoHE provides additional financial support to vocational schools
established at
organized industrial zones
CoHE granted an average of 4,500 TL per student to nine vocational schools
established at organized industrial zones for 16 associate degree programs
related to professions in the fields of manufacturing and logistics. Nearly
10 million TL of additional support was provided for the industrial
education of 2,202 students in 38 associate degree programs in nine
vocational schools.
The Board also decided to conduct a satisfaction survey for the students
attending vocational schools at organized industrial zones and other
stakeholders, to organize a meeting for vocational school directors to
increase the quality of hands-on training in vocational schools, to create
a flexible education model in vocational schools, and to apply the national
vocational standards issued by VQA to programs to strengthen the
relationship between education and employment.
