Scholarships and Employment Opportunities for Students Choosing to
Study in Textile and Leather Engineering

The “New CoHE” continues to work together with the sector representatives
in order to train the workforce needed by the industry within the framework
of the university-industry cooperation.
In order to train engineers needed by the sector, a cooperation protocol
consisting of scholarships, internships and employment incentives was
signed between the Council of Higher Education and Textile Exporters’
Associations, Apparel Exporters’ Associations, Leather and Leather Products
Exporters’ Associations, Turkish Textile Employers' Association.
In addition to CoHE President Prof. M. A. Yekta Saraç, CoHE Deputy
President Prof. Rahmi Er, CoHE Executive Board Member Prof. Ömer Açıkgöz,
Chairman of the Executive Board of the Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’
Associations, Ahmet Öksüz, Chairman of the Executive Board of the Apparel
Exporters’ Associations, Mustafa Gültepe, Chairman of the Executive Board
of the Leather and Leather Products Exporters’ Associations, Mustafa
Şenocak, and representatives from the Turkish Textile Employers'
Association attended the signing ceremony.
CoHE President Prof. M. A. Yekta Saraç made a speech at the opening of the
meeting. He said that the New CoHE had been in constant communication with
the representatives of the sector to train people with a high level of
competence according to the needs of the industry within the scope of the
university-industry cooperation and to establish policies for their
employment. “Students who choose to study in textile and leather
engineering will be provided with scholarships and employment guarantee by
the respected sector representatives if they meet the necessary
conditions,” he said.
He drew attention to the importance of the sectors of textile, apparel and
leather in the economic development and international competitiveness of
Turkey and said, “These are fields that need to be benefitted and
supported. The textile and leather sectors had an export revenue of 28
billion dollars and covered nearly 6% of total employment in Turkey last
year. The Council of Higher Education needs to train competent people
required by the textile and leather sectors.” He also touched on the
importance of the protocol signed with the sector representatives to train
qualified workforce in higher education for the industry.
CoHE President Saraç noted that the Textile Exporters’ Associations,
Apparel Exporters’ Associations, Leather and Leather Products Exporters’
Associations, and Turkish Textile Employers' Association would guarantee
employment for at least five years in the textile or apparel sector to
scholarship holders who give the undertaking to work in the sector.
After the speech of CoHE President, sector representatives also made a
speech on the protocol.
Following the speeches, CoHE Deputy President Prof. Rahmi Er signed the
protocol with the related sector representatives on behalf of the Council
of Higher Education.
