CoHE President Erol Özvar visited Erzincan to make site visits and participate in the activities held at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University. CoHE Executive Board Member Prof. Naci Gündoğan accompanied Özvar during his visit.

After visiting the Office of Erzincan Governor Mehmet Makas, Özvar chatted and took a souvenir photo with the students of the School of Medicine. He participated in the panel titled "An Ottoman Scholar: Eğinli Ebu Sehl Numan Efendi" held at the Prof. Erdoğan Büyükkasap Congress and Culture Center at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University.

“We are planning a national technology move”

In his speech at the panel, Özvar stated that they were planning a national technology move with the guidance of President Erdoğan and noted that Numan Efendi was among the pioneers who produced the first examples of the national technology move. He emphasizing that Numan Efendi was a figure with national dignity, national pride and patriotism and said, “Such examples of success are of great importance. As the number of these examples increases, the national technology move will reach success. Numan Efendi, who was also from Erzincan, was a genius who had solved extremely important and different issues across the Empire.”

“Removing the requirement of minimum passing score does not mean we have also removed the success ratings”

CoHE President Özvar congratulated the students who participated in the YKS and said, "The effort of about 3 million 250 thousand students to take this exam and enter higher education institutions is commendable. They really put in a great effort. I also would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the parents and families of our candidate students and convey my best wishes to them."

He reiterated that they, as CoHE, made some new arrangements regarding YKS by removing the requirement of minimum passing scores for TYT and AYT and extending the exam period and added, “The fact that this new arrangement has brought great satisfaction to both our students and their teachers shows that we made the right decision.”

Özvar emphasized that the removal of the requirement of minimum passing score did not mean that the success rating was also removed. He stated that they foresaw an increase in the demand for higher education not only in Turkey but all over the world in the coming years and continued as follows:

“What we are trying to do is to enable the citizens of countries with young population to benefit more from the opportunities of CoHE. As I have always said, this implementation is, in fact, about the increase in the number of students who makes university selections. That is to say that we wanted to expand this base. Otherwise, making selections does not mean getting into a university, as you might know. The more the number of students who can choose a university and program increases, the higher the efficiency of this exam, which is based on the success rating, will be. I believe our students will study in the fields of study they desire. The main duty of our universities is to provide the best educational support to our incoming students, to coach them, so to speak, and to prepare them for the future.”

“As CoHE, our most important task is to pave the way for universities”

Özvar noted that they aimed to increase not only the number of undergraduate students but also the number of graduate students and researchers and said:

“Our main goal is to increase the number of PhD researchers. We aim to provide students with access to universities through the universities in every province. As CoHE, our most important task is to pave the way for universities. Universities should not face any obstacles in terms of permanent positions, programs or other issues and those who deserve permanent positions should be able to find these positions and carry out academic studies freely. The number of scientific studies increases in a peaceful environment and decreases when there is conflict. Behind every decision we make, there is an effort to provide an environment suitable for research and science. What we are trying to do is to increase the publication capacity of professors, to make them more productive and to implement incentive policies to achieve this.”

CoHE President Özvar stated that he worked to increase the publication capacity and productivity of university professors and stated that positive discrimination should be encouraged, incentives should be applied and all kinds of support should be given to professors who work in this manner and cooperate internationally.

“We unanimously accepted the establishment of the Earthquake Technologies Institute”

Özvar pointed out that Erzincan is a province that has the most earthquakes and noted that Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University made a request to establish an earthquake institute. He stated that he wanted to announce an important development for Türkiye, especially for Erzincan and the entire region and commented, “I want to share the good news here. As CoHE, we unanimously accepted the application for the establishment of the Earthquake Technologies Institute in Erzincan. This institute will start to operate in Erzincan as soon as it is approved by our President.”

He said that important scientific research would be carried out at the Institute and said, "Hopefully, lecturers and experts will start earthquake research in Erzincan in cooperation with the Kandilli Observatory. It will train experts in the field of earthquake research and technology. We will support the efforts of our lecturers."
