Seventh Panel of “Preservation of Academic Heritage in the Middle East Project” Takes Place in Essen

The seventh international panel of the “Preservation of Academic Heritage in the Middle East Project”, which has been carried out by the Council of Higher Education under the auspices of the Presidency of Turkey, was held in Essen, Germany.
The panel “Carrying the Academic Heritage to the Future: Refugee Integration through Higher Education” was held at the Foundation Centre for Studies on Turkey and Integration Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Prof. M. İ. Safa Kapıcıoğlu, Deputy President of CoHE, Prof. Erol Özvar, Rector of Marmara University, Prof. Halil Akkanat, Rector of Turkish-German University, Şener Cebeci, Consul General of Turkey, Prof. Rita Süssmuth, politician and academic, Prof. Ömer Turan, Chair of Department of History at Middle East Technical University, Prof. M. Murat Erdoğan, faculty member at Turkish-German University, Prof. Hacı Uslucan, Director of Foundation Centre for Studies on Turkey and Integration Research, and Assoc. Prof. Bilge Kağan Özdemir participated as speakers.
CoHE Deputy President Prof. M. İ. Safa Kapıcıoğlu delivered a speech in which he informed the audience of the project. He reiterated that there were over four million refugees in Turkey and said, “We launched this project to raise awareness of access to higher education for young people aged 18-24 and to draw attention to the tragedies related to academic heritage.“
Kapıcıoğlu emphasized that the aim of the project is to ensure that refugee academics and students take part in this field and said, “We launched this project to raise awareness on this topic by telling about the things that Turkey, the country taking the leading role, has done.”
Before the panel, the CoHE Delegation met with Şener Cebeci, Consul General of Turkey to Essen, and Turkish students receiving education in Germany.

Six internationals panels were held in New York, Berlin, Brussels, Washington DC, Pakistan, and London within the project.
