CoHE Offers More Positions for Developed Departments of Research Universities

December 14, 2019

CoHE President Prof. M. A. Yekta Saraç said that 215 new academics would be assigned to positions in the fields that research and candidate research universities have the highest performance.

The fields of study in which universities had the best performance were determined

Yekta Saraç noted that CoHE started to provide additional positions to research and candidate research universities every year after the realization of the Specialization and Mission Differentiation Project, which is a first in Turkish higher education.

“These additional positions were distributed evenly to several departments of universities. This distribution had a limited positive contribution to CoHE’s project. According to the new implementation based on success, the units and departments of the research universities with the highest international visibility and the fields of study where they have the best performance were determined through meticulous research.

The Presidency supported our policy by approving our proposal for the allocation of assignment permissions of 15 additional positions to each research university and 10 additional positions to each candidate research universities. They will be for academic staff positions of the related departments in the determined main fields and proposed subfields and will be used in 2019. We are grateful to the Presidency,” he said.

The focus is mostly on health, science, and engineering in main fields

The main fields determined by CoHE specifically for each university includes physics and astronomy, geology, biochemistry, genetics, and molecular biology, energy, pharmacology, toxicology and pharmaceuticals, computer science, agriculture and bioscience, civil engineering and structural engineering, control and system engineering, industrial and manufacturing engineering, materials science, medicine and health, dentistry, chemistry, chemical engineering, psychology, and mathematics.

Saraç said that this approach should not be considered as other fields being neglected. He added that they were supporting the whole system, namely science-engineering, health, and social fields, but that they were doing it within the framework of high-level policy and planning.

11 research universities and 5 candidate research universities were identified under the Project

Taking into consideration the opinions of the related stakeholders, CoHE identified Ankara University, Boğaziçi University, Erciyes University, Gazi University, Gebze Technical University, Hacettepe University, Istanbul Technical University, Istanbul University, İstanbul University - Cerrahpaşa, Izmir Institute of Technology and Middle East Technical University as research universities and Çukurova University, Ege University, Selçuk University, Uludağ University and Yıldız Technical University as candidate research universities.
