Foreign Language Equivalences
Updated: February 25, 2016
Considering the reports by the Foreign Language Exams Equivalence Commission and the evaluations by the Department of Foreign Language Exams, ÖSYM Board of Directors has made the following decisions regarding the equivalence of foreign language exams.
Foreign Language Proficiency Examination for State Employees (KPDS), Interuniversity Foreign Language Proficiency Examination (ÜDS) and Foreign Language Proficiency Exam (YDS) conducted by OSYM are bi-directionally equivalent.
KPDS-ÜDS-YDS Equivalences of Other International Foreign Language Exams
In accepting any foreign language proficiency exam as equivalent to KPDS, ÜDS or YDS, it was decided to accept as equivalent only the exams that have international validity and are prepared in the official language/s of the country where the institution preparing the exam is affiliated.
If no validity date is specified on the language certificate for all foreign languages, it was decided to accept foreign language documents dated September 2005 and later as valid.
According to Clause d of the Paragraph 3 of the Article 6 of the Directive on Determination of Equivalences of Foreign Language Exams, to give and maintain equivalence to an international foreign language exam, it has been conditioned that the exam must be done in the buildings belonging to the state universities if the exam is done in Turkey.
Accepted exams in the equivalence table of foreign language exams are one way equivalent to KPDS, ÜDS or YDS. Except the exams specified in the tables, foreign language placement exams conducted by universities, institutes or the other language teaching institutions towards various courses cannot be assessed according to this equivalence table.
