Meeting With Deans of Faculty of Communication and Communication Sciences Held at CoHE

The Council of Higher Education held a meeting with the participation of the deans of the relevant faculties in order to discuss all aspects of the education offered in the Faculties of Communication and Communication Sciences in state and foundation higher education institutions in Turkey.
CoHE President Prof. M. A. Yekta Saraç chaired the meeting which was held for the first time at CoHE. CoHE Deputy President Prof. Hasan Mandal and CoHE officials, as well as the deans of the Faculty of Communication and Communication Sciences participated in the meeting.
Prof. M. A. Yekta Saraç made the opening speech of the meeting in which the education offered in the Faculty of Communication and Communication Sciences was evaluated within the framework of the developments in our higher education system.
CoHE President Saraç began his speech by highlighting the importance of communication science and communication tools, communication ecosystem in short, in all developments that took place especially in recent years in the world and in Turkey.
CoHE President pointed out that increasing the rate of access to higher education and schooling in Turkey was the most important issue that had to be dealt with before 2000. He stated that significant developments took place about that issue in terms of quantity between 2003 and 2014.
President Saraç added that the next stage of the growth process that took place in the last 10 years was growth in terms of quality. He said, "In this context, there are many new and innovative initiatives aimed at input and process-oriented improvements that the Council of Higher Education has carried out with all relevant stakeholders and shared with the public in the last two years."
CoHE President talked about the innovations realized in the field of higher education during his term of office and emphasized that the most important initiatives taken to make a structural change are the establishment of a quality board and the specialization based on mission differentiation.
President Saraç said that the projects, which were realized with the strategic approach of the new CoHE, show that Turkish higher education is no longer left to arbitrariness and help reshape it with a scientific method and rational style.
"The success and sustainability of this process can only be possible with the contribution and cooperation of all relevant stakeholders. In this regard, we attach great importance to these meetings.
According to the data in YÖKSİS, nearly 407 programs in 25 different types of education of communication are offered in 47 Faculties of Communication and one Faculty of Communication Sciences in 48 universities. About 50.000 students are studying in these faculties and about 6500 students graduate from these universities every year. The occupancy rates in communication programs are 100% in state universities and mostly above 85% in foundation universities. This is an important indicator of the high interest in communication programs. We will try to keep these rates at the same level in the future and encourage initiatives to improve quality during the output-driven processes."

Following the opening speech, CoHE Deputy President Prof. Hasan Mandal made a presentation.
In the question and answer session, the situation assessment for the communication-oriented undergraduate programs was carried out. Discussions were held on issues such as increasing the quality of education and vocational qualifications and employment of people who graduated from these faculties.
