May 17, 2017 / Kocaeli

Prof. M. A. Yekta Saraç, President of the Council of Higher Education, participated in the Assembly Meeting of Kocaeli Chamber of Industry in order to give information about many projects and innovations the administration of the "New CoHE" has realized in the field of higher education.

Before the meeting, CoHE President Saraç and the accompanying delegation visited the Governorship of Kocaeli and met with Governor Hasan Basri Güzeloğlu.

After the visit to the governorship, Ayhan Zeytinoğlu, Chairman of Kocaeli Chamber of Industry, made an opening speech at the Assembly Meeting of Kocaeli Chamber of Industry. CoHE President Saraç also made a speech on cooperation between universities and industry and industrial doctorates.

CoHE started his speech by extending his thanks to Ayhan Zeytinoğlu, Chairman of Kocaeli Chamber of Industry, for inviting him to the meeting and said that universities and industry are the two most important tools for the development and growth of countries and for them to become welfare societies.

President Saraç emphasized that the cooperation between universities and industry was a missing component which they frequently talked about and could not actualize. He also added that it was known how much importance was attached on the cooperation between universities and industry in developed countries.

President Saraç emphasized that those two tools had been working in cooperation for almost 100 years and said, "As the new CoHE, we are constantly looking for ways to improve for the better. In order to enable our universities to clearly reveal their knowledge, we are in close contact with all the dynamics of the community to increase and disseminate their areas of influence in the field of community service without deviating from their main missions."

President Saraç stated that they were developing policies regarding the promotion and strengthening of these relations and making decisions in that direction and said:

"As seen in the examples of Japan, China, South Korea and Malaysia, we have to stimulate and accelerate science, technology and innovation which are our only options when we are confronted with challenges such as wars and economic uncertainty in the world and in our region. We will accomplish this together with you. Turkey has actually come a long way. I would also like to give you an example about our progress: According to the research conducted outside Europe, there are 220 science universities in the Middle East. 50% of these universities are in Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia. This ratio consists of 62 universities in Turkey, 35 universities in Iran and 30 universities in Saudi Arabia. Now, Turkish universities are also listed in the world rankings. As you know, there are 18 Turkish universities in the top 500 list."

CoHE President said that they were trying to prioritize science, technology and significant training for scientific skills at universities. Afterwards, he made a presentation on Turkish higher education and innovation areas.

President Saraç answered the questions of the members of the Assembly.
