CoHE President Saraç, Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özkol, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ASELSAN, and Dr. Faik Eken, President of ASELSAN, signed the cooperation protocol for ASELSAN Academy Graduate Education Program at the Council of Higher Education.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, President Saraç said that R&D-based growth is among Turkey's goals for becoming one of the largest economies in 2023 in a global competitive environment.
"In order to enhance the quality of human resource, based on knowledge and science, of ASELSAN, it will be possible for the staff of ASELSAN to have doctoral education at successful universities in Turkey within the context of the protocol," said CoHE President Saraç.
CoHE President emphasized that it is possible to achieve the goal of Turkey for 2023 with knowledge and qualified human resources and said,
"Increasing access to higher education in Turkey was the most important problem that had to be solved before the 2000s. The number of people who accessed higher education has increased greatly especially between 2003 and 2014. We have witnessed growth that could be named as horizontal growth. The next stage of this growth process, which has been taking place in Turkish higher education system for the last 10 years, is qualitative growth."
President Saraç pointed out that CoHE has realized many innovations based on inputs and process that have been carried out with all relevant stakeholders and have been shared with the public for the last two and a half years. He stated that establishment of a quality board and specialization aimed at mission differentiation were among these innovations.
"The protocol that will be signed today is in integrated with our initiatives. There is no doubt that we first need to have qualified human resources in order to initiate the process for structural change and carry it out successfully in the Turkish higher education system," said President Saraç.
President Saraç reiterated that CoHE had launched the "100/2000 CoHE Doctoral Scholarship Project" to increase the quantity and quality of people with doctoral degrees and said:
"These projects that were implemented with the strategic approach of the new CoHE show that Turkish higher education will no longer be disregarded. It will contribute to the reshaping of Turkish higher education in a scientific and rational manner. CoHE is trying its best to reshape the life of science with the scientific power of universities and reconstruct higher education with concepts such as quality, specialization, priority fields and qualified doctoral degrees."
President Saraç underlined that CoHE attaches importance to the protocol signed with ASELSAN and said, "We will sign a protocol with ASELSAN, which is not only the leader of the defense industry but also the pioneer of the industry sector, to initiate the process for ASELSAN Academy that is focused at graduate education."
President Saraç said the following about the protocol:
"In order to enhance the quality of human resource, based on knowledge and science, of ASELSAN, it will be possible for students to have doctoral education at successful universities in Turkey within the context of the protocol. As CoHE, we will assume the role of a coordinator and guide during this process. In this way, as the new CoHE, we will include a new and innovative model for the cooperation between universities and the industry, which has been the topic for many years in Turkey, through the academy."
"The industry will rise with the human resource that catches up with the times"
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özkol, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ASELSAN, said, "Four distinguished universities in Turkey collaborated with ASELSAN, which is considered as the leader of the defense industry, and introduced a master program for the cooperation of universities and the industry."
Özkol stated that if the human resources were not enough, they could not get fruitful results even if they had all the required systems and said, "We know that technology and industry will rise if we train a sufficient number of competent people that are well-educated and catch up with the times."
