- Equivalence in Higher Education
Equivalence is the determination of the equality of associate degree, undergraduate and post-graduate (master's degrees only) diplomas received from the recognized HEIs abroad to the relevant diplomas issued by the HEIs in Turkey in terms of achievements in the relevant level in Turkey.
Equivalence procedures of the associate degree, undergraduate and post-graduate (master's degrees only) diplomas received from the HEIs abroad are carried out by the CoHE in accordance with the provisions of the Regulations for Recognition and Equivalence of Foreign Higher Education Diplomas dated 20 February 2016 which has been prepared with regard to the article 7/p amended by the Law No. 2880 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, and the Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the European Region.
Equivalence applications of graduates from recognized universities will be assessed according to the provisions of the Regulations for Recognition and Equivalence of Foreign Higher Education Diplomas, and the presence of the relevant universities on the list of recognized HEIs does not mean that graduates from these universities can directly obtain equivalence.
In the cases that the HEI abroad is recognized by the CoHE, equivalence process is carried out by examining whether the level of education of the higher education program for which equivalence is requested, the sum of the national credits and/or ECTS required for graduation and the knowledge, skills and competence to be acquired are equivalent to the Turkish higher education program. If the same or similar program is not available in the Turkish higher education, the process is carried out by examining whether it is equivalent to the Turkish higher education in terms of level of education.
