Scientists Selected for Various Positions in Academic Fields on International Platforms Gather at CoHE

CoHE President Prof. Dr. M. A. Yekta Saraç met with the faculty members who were selected for various positions on international platforms for their successful academic studies in different fields.
The global developments in higher education and the recent studies in Turkish higher education were discussed in the meeting held at CoHE.

CoHE President Saraç made a presentation entitled ‘Structural Developments in Turkish Higher Education System'. It contained information about the current status of the Turkish higher education system and the work carried out by the Council of Higher Education.
"The total number of higher education institutions is 185, the number of faculty members is 74,537 and the number of teaching staff is 154,950." he said. He also noted that, according to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), Turkey was ranked second with its 7,712,311 students.
He stated that the goal of the Council of Higher Education in education and higher education is vertical expansion, meaning expansion in terms of quality. He talked about the ‘Mission Differentiation and Specialization Aimed at Regional Development Project' and said, "We do not want Turkish universities to be the same. They need to create different values, taking into consideration the international qualifications. That is why we want them to specialize in education, research and technology and regional development separately in order to contribute to these fields. We determined five universities and fields of specialization for this purpose. We also determined ten universities as research universities and five universities as substitute universities."
He briefed the participants on the increase of the minimum passing score in the system for admission in higher education, improvement of criteria of doctoral programs, ‘Project-Based International Exchange Program', the redesign of the equivalence process, CoHE Fundamental Science Programs (TEBIP), YOKDIL and other projects and emphasized that they were trying to come up with new and innovative initiatives to increase the quality in all processes in higher education.
After the presentation, CoHE President Saraç and the participants exchanged views on the Turkish higher education system and talked about the steps to be taken in the future.
