Evaluation Meeting for Mission Differentiation and Specialization Aimed at Regional Development Program

Minister of Development Lütfi Elvan and CoHE President Prof. Dr. M. A. Yekta Saraç chaired an evaluation meeting in order to discuss the studies, that have been conducted by five pilot universities selected within the scope of the "Mission Differentiation and Specialization Aimed at Regional Development Program" that is coordinated by CoHE, and the activities for the next term.

 

Minister of Development Lütfi Elvan, CoHE President Prof. Dr. M. A. Yekta Saraç, members of evaluation commission, officials from the Ministry of Development and CoHE, rectors of Ahi Evran University, Bingöl University, Düzce University, Mehmet Akif Ersoy University and Uşak University and program coordinators of the related universities attended the meeting that was held at the Council of Higher Education.

 

As it is known, the program entitled "Mission Differentiation and Specialization Aimed at Regional Development for Turkish Universities" which was carried out under the coordination of the Council of Higher Education and Ministry of Development was initiated in 2015. The evaluation process for the selection of pilot universities within the scope of the program was completed in 2016.

 

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the names of the five pilot universities and their fields of specialization at the opening ceremony for the 2016-2017 academic year on October 18, 2016.

 

The following higher education institutions were chosen as the pilot higher education institutions for the mission differentiation and specialization aimed at regional development project:

 

•        Ahi Evran University: In the field of agriculture and geothermal energy,

•        Bingöl University: In the field of agriculture and basin based development,

•        Düzce University: In the field of health and environment,

•        Mehmet Akif Ersoy University: In the field of husbandry,

•        Uşak University: In the field of textile, leathermaking and ceramics

 

It was expected from these universities to initiate studies on the determined fields of specialization and plan activities for 2017 for a period of 5 years, especially priority activities for 2017. Site visits were carried out in these universities within the scope of the planning they have presented and these plans were evaluated in detail.

 

The rectors of the universities made presentations that include the plans and activities aimed for this purpose in the meeting held at the Council of Higher Education on July 18, 2017. Taking into consideration the evaluations carried out at the end of the meeting, it was stated that the projects which were evaluated as appropriate could be supported by the Ministry of Development.
