Young Minds in Basic Sciences Project

CoHE launches new projects to enable doctoral students and researchers to conduct research at international standards.

The "International Projects for Researchers" will promote research at universities ranked in the top 700 in the world rankings in the last three years.

CoHE President Erol Özvar stated that the training of competent postgraduate researchers in basic sciences is essential for Türkiye's existence in the global science and technology competition. "As the Council of Higher Education, one of our primary goals is to provide staff, resources and infrastructure to our universities in basic science research and to provide strong university programs and research scholarships to budding scientists," he said.

Özvar stated that the Young Minds in Basic Sciences Project will be implemented this year and announced that young scientists who continue their doctoral studies in basic sciences as research assistants at universities will benefit from this project.

Özvar said, "I would like to proudly announce to the entire scientific community that the Council of Higher Education will expand similar scientific research support programs in other fields of science next year."

- Young Minds in Basic Sciences Project -

Under the Young Minds in Basic Sciences Project, 100 PhD students working as research assistants at universities will be given a monthly stipend of up to 20 thousand TL to conduct research abroad on their thesis topics.

PhD students working as research assistants in higher education institutions can conduct research abroad in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics related to their thesis topics.

CoHE will assign these doctoral students to do research in higher education institutions abroad from one to three months and offer them a monthly stipend of up to 20 thousand TL. These students will also receive 10 thousand TL for transportation.

The candidates must meet the following conditions:

· To be a Turkish citizen who is currently working as a research assistant in a state higher education institution,

· To be at the thesis stage of a doctoral program in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics,

· To certify the language exam result showing that you have obtained at least 75 points from YOKDIL, YDS, E-YDS or an international foreign language exam accepted as equivalent by OSYM in the last three years, in the language in which the study will be conducted,

· To have no connection with the military for male candidates (To have completed military service, to be deferred from military service or to be in a condition for deferral)

· To have started PhD education in the last three years as of the application date,

· To receive an invitation letter from one of the universities ranked in the top 700 in the world university rankings conducted by University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP), Times Higher Education (THE), Academic Ranking of World Universities (Shanghai) and World University Rankings (QS) in the last three years for a minimum of one month.
